The RockawayX infrastructure team has now deployed Frankendancer mainnet to its dedicated Solana validator, paving the way for stakers to participate in our efforts to make Solana faster and more resilient.
To understand the significance of this deployment, it’s important to explore what Frankendancer is and how it’s reshaping the Solana ecosystem.
What Is Frankendancer?
Frankendancer is the alpha version of Firedancer, a highly-anticipated independent validator client that hit 1,000,000 TPS in synthetic testing, sparking a flurry of social media activity during Solana Breakpoint 2024.
Once live (likely later this year), Firedancer is expected to significantly boost Solana performance and resiliency by utilizing multiple validator clients. While we’ve waited eagerly for that moment alongside the rest of the ecosystem, Frankendancer has been making waves since deploying to mainnet last September, packing up to double the number of transactions into each Solana block, and helping the network manage the current memecoin mania that has driven Solana to sustain over 4,500 TPS.
RockawayX & Frankendancer
At RockawayX, we take pride in being early adopters of cutting-edge technologies. Frankendancer has been no exception. From the outset, our team has been actively experimenting with Frankendancer, integrating it into our operations to push performance boundaries.
Our current implementation leverages the new Firedancer code for the network stack, while the consensus, bank, and RPC layers continue to operate on the Agave client codebase. This hybrid approach allows us to evaluate and optimize the latest advancements while maintaining stability.
We are thrilled by our deployment of Frankendancer mainnet to our dedicated Solana validator. This deployment is supported by an out-of-shelf server equipped with the powerful AMD Epyc 9374F CPU, configured with custom tiles to maximize performance. During testing, our system achieved a throughput of up to 14,000 transactions per second (TPS) when catching up, a testament to the potential of Firedancer technology.
One of the most engrossing features of Firedancer is its real-time dashboard, which provides an experience akin to viewing Solana’s heartbeat—a new block produced approximately every 420 milliseconds— in real-time.
